Parent Information
Parents are an integral part of a Montessori education at The New School of Lancaster. There is probably so much that you already do to support your child’s Montessori experience. Practical Life activities are a matter of involving children in the everyday processes of life: cooking, cleaning, caring for pets, gardening, and so on. Reading to your child every day and language sharing are other important gifts.
You can also support your child’s Montessori experience by getting involved at the school. Getting involved - in the New School Parent Association (NSPA) or in one of the many volunteer opportunities - helps the school and is a good a way for parents to meet each other and connect.
Every parent is automatically a member of The New School of Lancaster Parent Association (NSPA). NSPA parent volunteers actively support The New School’s mission, promote community within the school, and strive to be an energetic force in the home-school partnership in these ways:
- Parent and Family Education and Communication: NSPA sponsors events and programs designed to communicate information and insights about our school, child development, family life, and Montessori education.
- Community Building: NSPA offers opportunities for families to participate together in the social life of our school.
- School Appreciation: NSPA works to acknowledge and encourage the excellence of our students, faculty, staff, and families.
Because we want to involve parents at school and encourage a sense of community among parents, each family is asked to commit to a set number of hours of volunteer work each academic year. As you complete your volunteer hours, please record them in the Volunteer Log Book. Simply ask at the front desk. Do you need to peruse the list of volunteer opportunities? It’s just a click away!
NSPA Programs and Events have included:
- New Family Mentor Program and Liaison
- Parent/Family Library
- Dessert and Discussion
- Curriculum Nights
- Montessori Services Group Order
- Scholastic Book Fair
- Helping Hands
