The Board of Trustees and the Head of School Search Committee are delighted to announce that Robyn Stearne has been named as The New School of Lancaster’s next Head of School commencing on July 1, 2017.
Robyn’s appointment is the result of a thoughtful and rigorous search process that began more than a year ago. In partnership with search consultants from Triangle Associates, the Search Committee considered a number of impressive candidates from around the country and even internationally. With input from our families, students, teachers and staff, the Search Committee and Board of Trustees unanimously selected Robyn Stearne as the right candidate to be our next Head. We are confident that she will guide The New School’s next phase with leadership, passion and integrity.
Robyn brings a rich Montessori background to The New School. She has spent over twenty years at Gladwyne Montessori in suburban Philadelphia. Like The New School, Gladwyne Montessori offers education for toddlers through eighth grade. Robyn began her career there as a teacher and most recently served as Program Director / Parent Liaison. In her role as a senior administrator, she was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school, implementing professional development programs and serving as a parent liaison.
Robyn has also had the powerful experience of creating an Infant Toddler teacher training site with which she hopes to help many, beyond the Montessori world, with professional development. She has served as Self Study Chair for the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and American Montessori Society where she organized and led a team through a two-year dual accreditation process. In 2015, she also served as a member of the Planning Committee for the American Montessori Society Annual Conference. Robyn’s husband Dan is currently a Montessori Teaching Assistant, and they have two children.
During the search process, we were especially focused on finding someone who not only embraced the mission and values of our school but who demonstrated strong commitment to all constituents – students, faculty, parents, board and alumni. The Head of School position is critical to our school’s success and we are confident that Robyn is the right leader for our community. The next step will be a successful and focused transition. To that end, the Board of Trustees will be forming a Transition Committee that will be responsible for onboarding and ensuring a consistent support system for Robyn throughout her first year.
I would like to express sincere thanks to our entire community for your enthusiasm, trust, and participation throughout this process. Your contributions and insight have been invaluable in this important decision and our engaged, close-knit school community allowed the process to be carried out smoothly. Finally, we are deeply grateful to Mary Cae for her support and assistance throughout the search process and for the example of dedicated leadership she has demonstrated during the last 25 years at the New School and over the past 13 years as Head of School.
I am thrilled about the vision and skills Robyn will bring as The New School of Lancaster continues to develop and improve while being bound by our mission to facilitate the unfolding of each child’s unique potential through outstanding Montessori education.
