XC @ NSoL

Dear Parents of Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders,

Do your children like to run?  Have school spirit? Want to be part of the best NSoL sports team ever?  If so, they can join the NSoL cross-country team!  No experience or talent required, just a desire to support athletics at the NSoL, exercise, and have tons of fun.  After a banner first year, the NSoL Cross-Country Team for boys and girls will begin its second season this August with meets extending from early September to mid-October.

The coaches are Gwen Eberly and Mark Olson, both parents of NSoL students and cross-country runners.  Sixth graders can be fully-fledged members of the team, but students must be in 7th or 8th grade to participate in meets.

Practices will begin the week before school starts, on Monday, August 21, and take place each week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00-4:30 PM.  We are planning to participate in four meets; most will be on Saturdays.

No equipment required except for a pair of good running shoes!  (The Inside Track offers discounts to all XC team members.) Uniforms for meets will be provided.  As a member of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), the NSoL must require that all competing 7th and 8th grade student-athletes complete the PIAA Comprehensive Initial Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation.  (The good news is that pediatricians are used to this form since it’s required by all Lancaster County public schools.) It is available here.

Any questions?  Feel free to contact Coach Gwen Eberly (eberlyg137@gmail.com), Coach Mark Olson (mark.olson@fandm.edu), or Manager Maria Mitchell (maria.mitchell@fandm.edu).  Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is interested.  We are also looking for parent volunteers to help with practice and transportation to meets.  If you can contribute even a few hours, please let Gwen, Mark, or Maria know.
