About the New School of Lancaster
“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.”
– Maria Montessori
The mission of The New School of Lancaster is to facilitate the unfolding of each child’s unique potential through an outstanding Montessori education that enables a child to meet future challenges, and that encourages a love of learning, independent thinking, social responsibility and individuality in a peaceful atmosphere of respect and acceptance among children and adults.
The New School of Lancaster offers an outstanding Montessori education, in a light-filled, historic space in Lancaster City. Our students range from toddlers to middle school age, coming from all parts of Lancaster County and beyond. For almost 30 years, we have filled a niche in the community for families who seek an excellent, non-denominational, educational opportunity in a child-centered, respectful, and caring environment.
We opened in September 1990 with 64 students. Today we enroll 190 students, toddlers to 8th grade. This extraordinary growth has been possible because of the enthusiasm, dedication, trust, positive attitude, and hard work of the teachers, the administration, the staff, the parents, and the Board of Trustees. Their commitment enables our growing school to flourish. We continue to serve the needs of our community, giving children the best education possible.
