PRIMARY ASSISTANT TEACHER
The New School of Lancaster is possibly seeking a part-time Primary Assistant for January, 2018. Applicants must have all required Pennsylvania clearances. Primary Assistants are partners with the teachers in providing a safe and attractive learning environment, working to help keep a prepared environment with a calm and welcoming community of learners. Assistants interact with the students through various ways, including assisting with academic work needs, guiding student learning through appropriate use of materials and modeling and expecting kind, social choices. A Primary Assistant completes a range of tasks throughout the day, and needs to be skilled in navigating the world of 3-6 year olds as well as have a love of being outside, as the children play outside daily. One should work well with others, including the children, the families of the children and the staff.
-Arrange and maintain an attractive, organized and safe classroom environment.
-Assume the responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times.
-Be knowledgeable of The New School philosophy of education and the primary curriculum.
-Plan, execute, and document instruction and progress for the developmental needs of each student.
-Communicate regularly with parents, management team and co-workers.
-Maintain confidentiality concerning students, parents and co-workers.
-Train, guide and inform the assistant teacher of classroom issues and relevant school issues.
-Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent nights and other works as outlined each year.
-Work closely with and be supportive of your level team in planning and coordinating program lessons, events and activities.
-Each teacher is expected to present a positive attitude and be supportive of the school and other staff, both inside and outside of school.
Applicants must possess a state public certification or private school license for ages 3-6 and an Early Childhood American Montessori Society credential. Candidates should be teamwork oriented, committed to the school and children they serve. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
